Behind the Scenes: My Logo Design Process
What really goes into creating a logo that works?
Hint: it’s not just opening Illustrator and picking a trendy font.
An effective logo is the product of strategy, empathy, and refinement. Whether you’re launching a new brand or rethinking your identity, understanding the logo design process helps you see the value beyond the visual.
So today, I’m walking you through my step-by-step process—what I do, why I do it, and how every decision connects back to your brand’s story.
Let’s dive in.
1️⃣ Discovery: Before the Design Begins
Before I sketch a single line, I ask questions. A lot of them.
Who are you? What do you stand for? Who do you want to speak to—and how do you want them to feel?
This discovery phase is about clarity. It’s where I gather insights about your mission, values, audience, and competitors. These aren’t just boxes to check—they’re the foundation of everything we’ll build next.
✅ Tools I use: brand questionnaires, strategy calls, voice & tone exercises.

2️⃣ Moodboards: Visual Direction with Purpose
Once I understand the strategy, I start shaping the vibe. Moodboards help translate ideas into a visual language—color palettes, typography styles, textures, photography references.
At this stage, I present 2–3 distinct directions. You don’t have to imagine what I’m thinking—you’ll see it.
The goal? Make sure we’re aligned on the look before any logo drafts hit your inbox.

3️⃣ Sketching Concepts: Where Ideas Take Shape
Now the fun begins.
This is where I sketch and explore multiple logo ideas, always connecting back to the insights from discovery. A good logo isn’t just beautiful—it’s intentional. Every shape, line, and style choice says something.
I often start with pencil or iPad sketches to explore structure, weight, and symbolism. This stage is messy (on purpose).

4️⃣ Digital Refinement: From Rough to Real
Once the strongest concept is chosen, I move into vector refinement. This is where your logo becomes polished, scalable, and versatile.
I test the logo across real-life use cases:
— Will it work in black and white?
— Is it legible at 16px?
— Does it still look strong on packaging, websites, social media, or a tiny favicon?
No guesswork—just clarity and function.

5️⃣ Final Selection: One Logo, Many Applications
We don’t just pick the “prettiest.”
The final logo must work hard. It has to be flexible, recognizable, and future-proof.
Along with the logo, I provide variations (horizontal, stacked, icon-only), so you can use it confidently across every touchpoint.

👉🏼 Brand Guidelines: The Rulebook for Consistency
A logo alone won’t build your brand—but how you use it will.
That’s why I include a custom brand guide in every identity project. It outlines how to use your logo, which colors and fonts to pair it with, and how to keep your visual identity consistent—whether you’re posting on Instagram or printing a billboard.

🔥 Why the Logo Design Process Matters
The truth is, skipping steps leads to forgettable brands. Or worse—confusing ones.
By following a thoughtful, strategic logo design process, we don’t just create a symbol. We craft a brand asset that connects, communicates, and lasts.
Your logo deserves more than just a quick fix. Let’s build something meaningful—together.
